The Poetic Landscape, pastel presentation

Daybreak Shadows

        with… Barbara Jaenicke, PSA, IAPS-MC

Once you learn the mechanics of painting the landscape, it’s time to learn how to add the magic…the poetry.

Among the Birch TreesWe’ll examine the difference between paintings that merely contain elements of the landscape, and those that strike an emotion… and how to gain the skills necessary to accomplish this.

Sunlit SlopeWe’ll cover some methods and techniques that will help you edit unnecessary details that detract from the emotion you want to convey.

At the Grace Community Church.  The public and all artists are invited.  There is no fee to attend the morning meeting.

About Barbara…BJaenicke - at easel

“Painting isn’t just a job or hobby for me. It’s more like a passion. If I’m not painting, I’m usually in some way thinking about painting. So I guess it’s really more of an obsession. I try to paint feelings, moods and experiences rather than “things.” To do this I need to push beyond the basic mechanics of creating the work. No painting is ever easy to me. Each one challenges me to create that magic that goes beyond just a painting of a thing. That magic doesn’t always happen in every single painting, but when it does, it’s a thrill beyond words that keeps me going.”

Barbara has had a passion for art since her early teen years. She received a BA in Art from a small college in New Jersey where she grew up. Although she started her art career as an advertising art director in 1986, and also later worked in corporate marketing for several years, she happily turned her focus back to fine art in 2002.

She works in pastel and oil, using an impressionist style to paint landscapes and still life. Her work has been featured in the December 2011 and June 2014 issues of the Pastel Journal and has been included twice in the magazine’s Annual Pastel 100 Competition. She’s holds Signature memberships in both the Pastel Society of America and Oil Painters of America, and is a Master Circle member of the International Association of Pastel Societies. Included among her awards are the People’s Choice Award in the 2014 American Impressionist Society Juried Exhibition and a finalist award in Southwest Art magazine’s 2014 Artistic Excellence competition.

Currently living in Roswell, GA with her husband and son, Barbara teaches workshops throughout the country and also locally from her studio. Her work is represented at Watson Gallery in Atlanta, GA; Raiford Gallery in Roswell, GA; Stoneheart Gallery in Evergreen, CO; Weiler House Fine Art Gallery in Fort Worth, TX; and her smaller works are also available online at www.dailypaintworks.com .
