          Creating Art as a Colorist

BEV KIES

Morning presentation is free and open to the public

KiesB_Ember'sGlare_13x18 During my presentation, I will talk about how I create my works as a colorist painter.  This is characterized by my use of intense color, which becomes the dominant feature of the resulting work of art…even more than some of the other qualities.

There is nothing more personally satisfying to me than creating a painting and seeing it come to life before my eyes.  Although my paintings are a medley of work, my greatest emphasis is on the animal world.  As I begin my painting of any animal, I try to discover their personalities and pull that life into my work.  I enjoy a certain playfulness in my renditions, which I will demonstrate during my presentation.

About Bev

My pastel paintings represent a medley of work, celebrating animals, places and people.  My love for animals started at the same time as my love of art.  As a child so young that I cannot remember a time without these elements in my life, I marvel continuously at the joy that animals bring into people’s lives.  I enjoy a certain playfulness in my renditions, using vivid colors and expressive strokes.

At the age of five, my mother, a watercolor and oil painter, sent me to the Atlanta School of Art.  This early passion eventually led to a degree in art education from Ohio State University.  Having lived in Hendersonville 13 years now, I am focusing full time on my art career and now teach pastel at workshops and also through the continuing education program at Blue Ridge Community College.  My website is, www.beverlykies.com
