“Driven to Abstraction”
A Demo and Talk presenting different techniques and approaches to finding the inspiration in scenes we see all around us. Laura will show new and different underpainting techniques as well as working in values to create that special ‘GLOW’ we all want in our work.

Driven to Abstraction Workshop with Laura Pollak
The afernoon workshop will be an exploration in composition for abstract paintings, [same rules apply as for a landscape or still life!] then using value and color to create a ‘GLOWING’ abstract with a single light source that captivates your viewer! Bring 3 ‘failed’ and brushed off / washed down paintings on sanded, MOUNTED paper that still has tooth. Size should be minimum 9 x 12. We will be experimenting and PLAYING! Lotsa FUN!
ABOUT Laura:
Award winning Artist, Laura Pollak, shows her work in galleries and museums across the nation. She has paintings in National and International Shows and has won acclaim in the prestigious Pastel Society of America Show, International Association of Pastel Societies, and has been featured in the Pastel Journal. Upcoming shows include IAPS 2019 Albuquerque, STROKES OF GENIUS, with publication this November. In 2018 Laura was awarded First Place in the NC Statewide Show by Liz Haywood Sullivan.
Laura served as President of the Pastel Society of North Carolina for 2 years and is a Signature Member of that Society as well as Pastel Society of the West Coast and Southeastern Pastel Society. Pollak is also an Associate Member of the Pastel Society of America.
Her works range from landscape and garden scenes to playful abstracts. She teaches classes and workshops around the country.
